Independent Playwright Architect Session
Building original theatrical work from concept to production execution without your artistic voice
Service Description
You have a play inside you. You shouldn’t have to wait for someone else to tell you it’s worth producing. I know what it feels like to have a story that doesn’t fit neatly into the traditional theatre system. I’ve been the playwright with the idea, the composer figuring out the score, the artist trying to find funding, and the producer asking, “Okay…how do I actually get this thing made?” That experience is why I created this session. As an Independent Theatre Architect, I help playwrights look beyond the script and start building the bigger picture: What is this story really trying to say? Who needs to experience it? Where could it live? How can you develop, fund, produce, and sustain it without losing what made you write it in the first place? Together, we’ll work through your story, structure, artistic identity, production possibilities, audience connection, and practical next steps. Whether you’re stuck in the middle of a draft or wondering how to get a finished play off the page, we’ll create a path forward that feels possible and feels like you. This isn’t about making your work more “marketable” by making it more generic. It’s about making your work stronger while making your path to production clearer. This session is for playwrights who: •Have a story they believe in but don’t know what to do with next •Feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move the project forward •Want stronger structure without sacrificing emotional truth •Are creating work that doesn’t fit conventional theatre models •Want to explore self-production, funding, audiences, or unconventional performance spaces •Are tired of waiting for permission, validation, or the “right” theatre to discover them We’ll identify the heart of your story, strengthen its creative architecture, and map out practical next steps for development, funding, production, and sustainability. You’ll leave with clearer vision for your play, a clearer path for bringing it to life, an actionable strategy, and renewed confidence in your ability to create the theatre you want to see in the world. Because I learned something through my own journey: Sometimes the path to the stage isn’t about finding the right door. It’s about learning how to build your own.
